Why I post in both English and Chinese
Well, I post in English because I wrote my posts while at work. I don't have a Chinese input software on my work computer. I had to post in English. Besides, I do want to people to read my blog. I mean, what's the point of posting in a public place if I don't want people to read? As for why I post in Chinese. Well, it's my native tongue. I feel comfortable. Also, there are lots of things I feel more comfortable to express in Chinese. After I got home, I tried to translate my English post into Chinese the best I can. No worry though. The English and Chinese versions are similar. The differences being that I used more idioms and slang in Chinese that difficult to translate in English. Depend on time, mostly like I will do that for most of the blog entries.
我用英文寫是因為我是在上班時寫文章。公司的電腦沒有中文軟體。只有用英文。而且我想讓更多人讀我的文章。畢竟在公共的地方發文章﹐讓大家閱讀我的文章也是我的目的之一。至於還要寫中文﹐這是因為中文是我的母語﹐我用中文寫比較順手。而且有些東西用中文來表達比較能詞能達意。我是在下班回家後﹐儘量把我的英文文章翻譯成中文。中﹑英文版本十分相近。大概就是中文俗語比較難用英文表達﹐無法翻譯而已。看我的時間如何﹐大概以後大部份文章都會這麼處理。

While on my lunch break alone in a fast-food restaurant, a handsome black guy who sat next to me hit on me. He started a conversation with me. 阿嬸 -Or A very cute five year old girl called me Auntie
下班回家後﹐懶地煮飯﹐去了一個常去的中國餐廳吃飯。在結帳時一個媽媽帶著一個可愛的小女孩排隊在我後面﹐那個小女孩大概只有五﹑六歲吧。在等找錢時﹐我看她可愛﹐就跟她用英文談起來。她媽媽大概是聽我用台語跟老闆娘說了幾句﹐就很驕傲的跟我說﹕”我們有教妹妹說台語哦。“然後媽媽就催促著小女孩﹐要她跟我說台語。結果小女孩用很可愛的稚嫩嗓音叫我”阿桑“大家當場很尷尬的愣在那裡。哎呀﹐超級可愛又超級討厭的小孩子﹐好了﹐我大概是妳媽差不多年紀啦﹐可是妳也不用這麼誠實吧。想當年我也是個青春無敵的美眉呢。看來今晚保養品要多塗一些了。

After dinner, while I was at the counter to paid my dinner, a mom with a very cute little girl waiting in line behind me. That girl was probably five or six. While waiting for change, I started conversation in English with the little girl because she is so cute. Her mom, perhaps overheard I talked to the owner's wife in Taiwanese, told me that they taught the little girl Taiwanese. Then mom urged the little girl to talked to me in Taiwanese. The little in her cute and tender voice, called me "auntie." Everyone was ill at ease. Oh, mine. Super cute yet super annoyed little girl. OK, fine, I am probably the same age as your mom. But you didn't have to be so honest. I was once a young hot chick you know. I guess I will use extra facial cream tonight.

I blog about my life. This makes anonymity very important to me. I live a double life. I enjoy sex a lot, but have to keep quiet about it. As an Asian woman, I am expected to live a respectful, conservative life. For Chinese, premarital sex, especially promiscuous premarital sex is frowned up. Chinese are very conservative sexually. That's not to said we are pure and never done anything amoral. It is as much about being quiet as being a pure and moral person. It is consider a disgrace and “losing face” if I made the intimate details of my life well known. Well, not like everyone is telling everyone else about their sex life. But for me, I have to be especially careful not to reveal anything. Only some of my most trusted friends knows. Not even my mom knows what's going on. I have to put a respectable front. I pretend to be a nice, reserved Asian woman. I can't not reveal anything to my co-workers, some of whom I am getting alone really well, and my family and friends about my sex life. I prefer to keep that a secret. I am fearful of what my family and friends would think of me if they know what I did last weekend. Well, actually, they would think that I am a slut and my mom pretty much will disown me. My co-workers will laugh at me behind my back. I want to avoid that at all cost.
Come to think of it, even though American like to think that they are more liberal sexually, compare to Asian. They aren't. They are as much conservative as Chinese. They are the same when it come to being quiet and maintain a respectable facade. Perhaps that's the common for all male dominated cultures worldwide. I bet I won't have to hide if I am a guy. But because I am a woman, people, regardless of cultures and races, will label me “slut.” Well, that's for another topic.
I want to be honest without revealing my true identity. So there we go: Karen is my real name, Fow is not. Fow is an important name to me, which is why I choose that name as my Google account. My Chinese nickname is “Little Flower”, I used it as my twitter account Karen_Flower. Everyone else, their names have been changed, though everything else remained truthful.
